DEXA Scan Guide: Bone Density Testing Explained
For education only. This page does not diagnose osteoporosis or replace individualized medical care.
DXA/DEXA uses low-dose X-rays to estimate bone mineral density, commonly at the hip and spine. Results may include T-scores and, in some situations, Z-scores.
What it does not do
A scan does not tell you, by itself, which diet, exercise program or treatment is right for you. Interpretation belongs in the context of your health history and fracture risk.
